Sold for: £30
A mixed lot of Victorian style brass and porcelain hardware accompanied by a nineteenth-century wooden writing slope. The lot comprises three brass bibcock faucets featuring four-prong cross handles and one threaded mounting shank. Also included is a collection of four white glazed porcelain doorknobs with brass shanks and a decorative pierced brass escutcheon or rose. Additional items include a brass servant style bell with a turned wood or composite handle base, a metal bracket with yellow inserts stamped with the characters 1829043, and various small iron keys and threaded brass fittings. The rectangular wooden writing slope is constructed with brass-bound corners and a central brass inset plate on the lid. The central brass plate is engraved with the initials D.C. in a decorative script. The box is sold empty and lacks its original interior fittings.
Condition report:
The items are in as-found salvaged condition. The wooden writing slope lid displays a significant vertical structural crack (photo 3) alongside surface scuffing and loss of finish. The brass corner bindings show surface oxidation and wear (photo 1). The brass plumbing components exhibit heavy verdigris and dark brown oxidation (photo 2). The glazed porcelain doorknobs appear intact, though minor surface grime is visible (photo 2). The metal bracket shows surface rust and wear to the arm (photo 2).
