Lot 172: A Neoclassical Style Gilt Composition Oval Wall Mirror

This auction ended on October 14, 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £14

A Neoclassical style oval wall mirror featuring a decorative gilt finish. The frame is constructed from a molded composition or resin material, decorated with a continuous ribbon and reed border. It is crested by a large-scale decorative ribbon bow at the top, which is integrated into the frame’s overall design. The gilding has been finished with a dark patination in the recessed areas to create an aged appearance. The oval mirror plate is clear and appears to be in good order. The reverse of the mirror is not visible, and therefore the hanging hardware and backing material cannot be confirmed. This lot comprises the mirror only; the media items, shelving, and household goods shown in the reflection are not included.

Condition report:

The mirror is in good overall condition. There is some minor wear to the gilt finish along the raised edges and folds of the ribbon bow cresting, where the underlying base material is slightly exposed (photo 2). The mirror glass appears clear and free from significant scratching or silvering loss in the visible areas. No other defects are visible from the photographs provided.
