A collection of British studio and commercial pottery comprising two distinct groups. The first group is an earthenware coffee and dinner service in a two-tone matte glaze featuring a mushroom brown exterior and cream interior. This set includes two coffee pots with lids, cups, saucers, side plates, and dinner plates. The underside of a plate bears a printed grey backstamp consisting of a dolphin device above the word POOLE, with ENGLAND below, enclosed within a rounded rectangular border. The second group is a collection of stoneware oven-to-tableware, including a large lidded casserole and several smaller individual lidded pots. These pieces are finished in a dark chocolate-brown matte glaze and feature hand-painted stylized circular motifs in yellow and ochre, characteristic of the Arabesque pattern. The pieces are constructed with integrated handles and recessed lids with circular finials.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of heavy surface dust and grime across all pieces. One dinner plate in the Poole service has a fine hairline crack visible on the dark glazed surface (photo 3). The Poole earthenware pieces show scattered surface scuffs and minor glaze imperfections consistent with age and domestic use. The Denby stoneware items exhibit minor surface wear and small flea bites to some of the rims and lid edges, though no major structural cracks are visible in the photographs.
